The cranberry marshes of Manitowish Waters surround the northeast 1/3 of Little Trout Lake. This lake is located along the south edge of the Manitowish Waters town line. There are five cranberry marshes in Manitowish Waters. They range is size from 63-185 acres totaling about 600 acres. Some families are in thier third generation of cranberry growing here. These marshes were started soon after World War II, around 1946 at considerable risk, in an area of Wisconsin not yet known for cranberry production. Wisconsin is a national leader in cranberry production and produces more than 40% of the cranberries consumed each year.
