The history of the home contains the following:
"The Ben Hur Life Association in Crawfordsville was the forerunner of the Ben Hur Home. The Association had the responsibility of caring for its beneficiaries under a life care contract [which was what Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver had; it called for life care for the surviving spouse]. Difficulties associated with the administration of the life care contracts compelled the Ben Hur Life Association to approach Marth Williams, a life-long resident of Crawfordsville, with a offer to take over the operation of the organization. In 1955, Martha Williams commenced operation of Ben Hur Home...."
