Key paragraphs, re: one of the parcels offered: "A second 40-acre parcel discussed is in private ownership west of Indian Camp Lake that has county forest lands on three sides. The land has some archeologist issues, according to department staff.
"Once the site of an old logging camp, the land was occupied by about 200 Native Americans around 1880 and contains graves. Although most graves were relocated to Forest County, the evidence indicates some graves could still be on the land.
"'We would have the responsibility to protect it should we own it,' assistant forest administrator John Gagnon said. He said the Native Americans were part of the Potawatomi tribe.
"'Maybe the tribe will have an interest in helping us protect it,' said Gagnon."
