About 100 folks turned out for the annual Star Lakers Picnic. Gorgeous weather and great food laid the foundation to make the event a huge success.
For $2, people got lunch and an entry chance to win one of the many raffle prizes up for grabs. Many people brought a dish or dessert to pass, enhancing the spirit of community.
"It was a great chance to see old friends and visit with new neighbors," long-time resident Lois Errington, who has been attending the picnic for nearly 50 years, said.
Sponsored by the Star Lakers Club, funds generated have helped to improve lake quality and most recently the construction of a handicap fishing pier at the park. The Lions and other local clubs have been on band to help with the projects.
It was also thekick-off in the campaign to choose the new honorary mayor of Star Lake. This year, the candidates are Dennis Horan and Dan Simcox. Voting will run through Labor Day. Keep an eye out for voting buckets at Vinchi's[,] Stillwaters, Sayner Pub, Sayner Mobil and other area businesses.
