Text

Star Lake. Vilas. The local tradition is that Star Lake was named for the Starr brothers, Bob and Harry. Bob Starr was a surveyor and may have been working in the area in the 1880's when the site was bought by the Land and Log Company of Milwaukee. The name evolved from Starr Lake through Starlake to the current Star Lake. The post office was established in August 1895, Allen E. Williams, postmaster. (Rohe, Ghosts of the Forest, 297.)
