Borders of Wisconsin

The border with Michigan runs just north of Land O'Lakes, which was once called State Line for that reason. King, who developed the Gateway Lodge also had a night club building just to the north of the lodge. The story goes that it sat right on the line, there were slot machines in the building, which could be pushed from one state to the other, as appropriate as authorities from one jurisdiction or the other came to inspect. Money in the right pocket allegedly insured that they did both arrive at once.

Now the line is clearly shown at the highway to run well north of the building.

Trying to understand the placement of the line is very difficult from the sources easily available on the internet, as the direction of the line at that point is based on a understanding of the location of Lac Vieu Desert that was incorrect.
