Wisconsin Environmentalists
A number of persons involved in America's environmental movement have their roots in Wisconsin. Those discussed in detail on this website are listed to the left as subheadings.
Of course, John Muir grew up in Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and then moved on to a career further west. Some aspects of his boyhood in Wisconsin are told in 'Oh, The Glorious Wisconsin Wilderness'. A much more detailed story is told by Muir himself in Story of My Boyhood and Youth.
